The Star Ledger reports on Bail Bond Installment Plans

People do not plan financially for a Bail Bond. It is usually an emergency situation. The newly arrested defendants are sometimes individuals who are working and providing for a family but live check to check and need to do a bond on an installment plan. Bond companies do not charge interest and are not doing these installment plans as a way of making more money. Accordingly, bondsmen do take into consideration the indemnitor or cosigner initiating the bonds, credit worthiness. Apart from the persons financial situation, bondsmen do weigh heavily on the persons character and do realize people arrested have only been ALLEGED to have committed a crime. They at the time of posting bail are innocent and have not been proven guilty. -Juan Chavez,
